Errata for the Girl's flower cardigan from the Designer Yarns supplement free with Knitting issue 122, November 2013

 

SIZES
To fit age: 3-4[5-6:7-8:9-10] years
To fit chest: 55-57[59-61:63-67:69-73]cm (21.5-22.5[23-24:25-26.5:27-28.5]in)
Actual measurement: 68.75[72.5:80:87.5]cm (27[28.5:31.5:34.5]in)
Length: 34[37:42.5:46]cm (13.5[14.5:17:18]in) Sleeve seam: 21[22:24:26]cm (8.25[8.75:9.5:10.25]in)
Figures in square brackets refer to larger sizes. Where there is only one set of figures this applies to all sizes.

YOU WILL NEED
DY Choice Aran yarn,
75% Polyacryl, 25% Wool (800m per 400g) 1[1:1:1] x 400g ball in Ecru 502
1 pair each of 5mm and 5.5mm knitting needles Stitch holders
One press stud for the purse
1m (40in) of coordinating ribbon for the tie, approx 2-3cm (1-1.25in)
Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION
16 sts and 20 rows to 10cm (4in) over st st using 5.5mm needles.
Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

ABBREVIATIONS
dd Double decrease – insert the right hand needle knitwise through two sts (as if to knit two sts together) and slip these onto the right hand needle. Knit the next st as usual, then pass the two slipped sts over the knitted st.

PATTERN NOTES
Fluted frill pattern:
Row 1 (RS): P2, *k5, p2; rep from * to end. Row 2: K2, *p5, k2; rep from * to end. Row 3: P2, *skpo, k1, k2tog, p2;
rep from * to end.
Row 4: K2, *p3, k2; rep from * to end. Row 5: P2, *k3, p2; rep from * to end. Row 6: As row 4.
Row 7: P2, *dd, p2; rep from * to end. Row 8: K2, *p1, k2; rep from * to end.

BACK
Using 5mm needles cast on 137[144:158:172] sts. Work the Fluted frill pattern for 8 rows, as follows: Row 1 (RS): K1, rep Fluted frill pattern row 1 to last st, k1.
Row 2: P1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 2 to last st, p1.
Row 3: K1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 3 to last st, k1.
Row 4: P1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 4 to last st, p1.
Rows 5: K1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 5 to last st, k1.
Row 6: P1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 6 to last st, p1.
Row 7: K1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 7 to last st, k1.
Row 8: P1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 8 to last st, p1. 61[64:70:76] sts.
Change to 5.5mm needles and commence st st starting with a knit row.
Continue in st st until work measures 18[20:24:27]cm (7[8:9.5:10.75]in) ending with
a WS row, at the same time working in decreases as follows:
Decrease row (RS): K2, skpo, k to last 8 sts,
(k1, p1) 4 times.
Work this dec row on row 11[13:15:17], then rep
a further two times on the following 10[10:12:12]th rows. 32[35:38:41] sts.

LEFT FRONT
With 5mm needles, cast on 67 (74, 81, 88) stitches.
Row 1(rs): K1, repeat fluted frill row 1 till last 8 stitches, *k1, p1* 4 times
Row 2: *k1, p1* 4 times , fluted frill row 2 to last stitch, p1
Row 3: k1, fluted frill row 3 till last 8 stitches, *k1, p1* 4 times
Row 4: *k1, p1* 4 times , fluted frill row 4 to last stitch, p1
Row 5: K1, fluted frill row 5 till last 8 stitches, *k1, p1* 4 times
Row 6: *k1, p1* 4 times , fluted frill row 6 to last stitch, p1
Row 7: K1, fluted frill row 7 till last 8 stitches, *k1, p1* 4 times
Row 8: *k1, p1* 4 times , fluted frill row 8 to last stitch, p1.  (35, 38, 41, 44 stitches)
Change to 5.5mm needles, continue with rib and commence stocking stitch pattern from row 1. 
Continue till work measures 18 (20, 24, 27)cm ending with a ws row, at the same time working in decreases as follows:
Decrease row (rs): K2, skpo, k to last 8 stitches, *k1, p1* 4 times.
Work this decrease row on row 11 (13, 15, 17), then repeat a further two times on the following 10th (10th, 12th, 12th) rows.  (32, 35, 38, 41 stitches)

Shape armhole
Row 1 (RS): K2tog, pattern to end. Row 2: Pattern to last 2 sts, p2tog. Row 3: K2tog, pattern to end. Second size only: Rep row 2.
Third size only: Rep rows 2 and 3. Fourth size only: Rep rows 2 and 3, then 2 again. 29[31:33:35] sts.
Continue straight until armhole measures 8[8:9:10]cm, (3[3:3.5:4]in) ending with a RS row.

Shape neck
Next Row (WS): Break yarn, put the first 9[11:12:13] sts onto a stitch holder, re-join yarn and pattern to end. 20[20:21:22] sts.
Dec 1 st on every row at the neck edge until 15[15:16:17] sts remain.
Dec 1 st on every alt row at the neck edge until 14[14:15:16] sts remain.
Continue in st st until armhole measures 14[15:16.5:17]cm (5.5[6:6.25:6.5]in), ending with a WS row.

Shape shoulder
Row 1 (RS): Cast off 7[7:7:8] sts, k to end. Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: Cast off rem 7[7:8:8] sts.

RIGHT FRONT
With 5mm needles, cast on 67[74:81:88] sts. Row 1 (RS): (P1, k1) 4 times, rep Fluted frill Row 1 to last st, k1.
Row 2: P1, rep Fluted frill Row 2 to last 8 sts, (p1, k1) 4 times.
Row 3: (P1, k1) 4 times, rep Fluted frill Row 3 to last st, k1.
Row 4: P1, rep Fluted frill Row 4 to last 8 sts,(p1, k1) 4 times.
Row 5: (P1, k1) 4 times, rep Fluted frill Row 5 to last st, k1.
Row 6: P1, rep Fluted frill Row 6 to last 8 sts,
(p1, k1) 4 times.
Row 7: (P1, k1) 4 times, rep Fluted frill Row 7
to last st, k1.
Row 8: P1, rep Fluted frill Row 8 to last 8 sts,
(p1, k1) 4 times. 35[38:41:44] sts.
Change to 5.5mm needles and commence st-st starting with a knit row. Continue in st st until work measures 18[20:24:27]cm (7[8:9.5:10.75] in) ending with a WS row, AT THE SAME TIME working in decreases as follows:
Decrease row (RS): (P1, k1) 4 times, k to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2.
Work this dec row on row 11[13:15:17], then rep a further two times on the following 10[10:12:12]th rows. 32[35:38:41] sts.

Shape armhole
Row 1 (RS): Pattern to last 2 sts, k2tog.
Row 2: Skpo, pattern to end.
Row 3: Pattern to last 2 sts, k2tog.
Second size only: Rep row 2.
Third size only: Rep rows 2 and 3.
Fourth size only: Rep rows 2 and 3, then 2 again. 29[31:33:35] sts.
Continue straight until armhole measures 8[8:9:10]cm, (3[3:3.5:4]in) ending with a WS row.

Shape neck
Next Row (RS): Break yarn, put the first 9[11:12:13] sts onto a stitch holder, re-join yarn and pattern to end. 20[20:21:22] sts.
Dec 1 st on every row at the neck edge until 15[15:16:17] sts remain.
Dec 1 st on every alt row at the neck edge until 14[14:15:16] sts remain.
Continue in st st until armhole measures 14[15:16.5:17]cm (5.5[6:6.25:6.5]in), ending with a RS row.

Shape shoulder
Row 1 (WS): Cast off 7[7:7:8] sts, p to end. Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: Cast off rem 7[7:8:8] sts.

SLEEVES (MAKE TWO ALIKE)
Using 5mm needles, cast on 74[74:81:81] sts. Work the Fluted frill pattern for 8 rows, as follows: Row 1: K1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 1 to last st, k1. Row 2: P1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 2 to last st, p1.
Row 3: K1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 3 to last st, k1.
Row 4: P1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 4 to last st, p1.
Row 5: K1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 5 to last st, k1.
Row 6: P1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 6 to last st, p1.
Row 7: K1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 7 to last st, k1.
Row 8: P1, rep Fluted frill pattern Row 8 to last st, p1. 34[34:37:37] sts.
Change to 5.5mm needles and and commence st st starting with a knit row. Work increases as follows until work measures 21[22:24:26]cm (8.25[8.75:9.5:10.25]in).
Increase Row (RS): K2, m1, k to last 4 sts, m1, k2. 36[36:39:39] sts.
Rep inc row every 6 rows until there are 42[44:47:49] sts.

Shape armhole
Decrease Row: Dec 1 st at the beginning and end of the row using k2tog at the beginning and skpo at the end of a knit row, and p2tog at the beginning and p2tog tbl at the end of a purl row. Rep dec row a further 2[3:4:5] times. 36[36:37:37] sts.
Work 7 rows straight.

Shape cap
Next Row: Dec 1 st at the beginning and end of the row. 34[34:35:35] sts.
Next row: Pattern to end.
Rep the above two rows a further 3 times, then rep dec row a further 4 times. 20[20:21:21] sts. Cast off 5 sts at the beginning of the next
two rows.
First two sizes only: Cast off 4 sts at the beginning of the next two rows, then cast off the rem sts.
Last two sizes only: Cast off 5 sts at the beginning of the next two rows, then cast off the rem sts.

NECKBAND
Sew the shoulder seams. Using 5mm needles, with RS facing and starting at the Right Front, place the 9[11:12:13] sts from the stitch holder onto the needle, pick up 16[16:18:20] sts across the right neck, place the 21[22:24:26] sts from the Back stitch holder onto the needle, pick up 16[16:18:20] sts across the left neck, place the 9[11:12:13] sts from the Left Front stitch holder on the needle. 71[76:84:92] sts.
Commence single rib as follows:
First size only
Row 1: (K1, p1) rep to last st, k1.
Row 2: (P1, k1) rep to last st, p1.
All other sizes
Row 1: (K1, p1) rep to end.
Row 2: Rep row 1.
Rep rows 1 and 2 twice more. Cast off all sts.

FLOWERS
Make 3 small and 1 large (or enough for the flower pattern placement of your choice).
Cast on 32[52] sts.
Knit 2[4] rows.
Next row: K1 *skpo; rep from * to last st, k1. 17[27] sts.
Next row: Knit.
Next row: K1 *skpo; rep from * to end. 9[14] sts. Cast off all sts, leaving a 30cm (12in) tail to sew up and attach the flowers.
Make up the flowers by coiling round the cast- off edge and secure by sewing through the base of the flower.

TO FINISH OFF
Insert the sleeves into the armholes, easing fullness at the shoulder. Sew side and sleeve seams. Attach ribbon to each Front neckband. Sew flowers in place on Left Front. Sew in ends and block lightly.

PURSE
Using 5mm needles cast on 25 sts. Work in
st st for 23cm (9in), starting with a knit row (RS). Commence decreases for the point as follows: Row 1 (RS): K1, k2tog tbl, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. Row 2: P1, p2tog, p to last 3 sts, p2tog tbl, p1. Rep these 2 rows until there are 5 sts, ending with a WS row.
Next row: K2tog tbl, k1, k2tog.
Next row: P3tog.
Cast off final st.
Flower
Make one large flower as per instructions for the cardigan.

TO FINISH OFF
Sew the sides of the purse. The flap should overlap in envelope style. Place the flower near the point and sew to attach firmly. Sew one half of a press stud on the back of the point, and the other half in the corresponding place on the purse
