Digital Calipers

Sian Hamilton reviews digital calipers, the secret tool you did know you needed!

Calipers are a tool for measuring external or internal dimensions. Silverline make a variety of calipers, but we are taking a look at the digital variety that makes measuring anything a breeze. Calipers can be used to measure, jumprings (essential for anyone doing chain maille), wire dimensions, sheet metal thickness and bead sizes.

These calipers have two measuring devices; the one at the top allows internal dimension measurements by placing the jaws inside the object being measured ie. jumprings. The jaw at the bottom measures the external dimensions. The digital display allows measurements to be viewed as inches or millimetres. To use this calipers, you simply place the objects being measured in between the jaws and push from the right until they touch the item. The professional version has an adjustment wheel to refine
the measurement.
